Not sure what the 1948 had but my 1952 has the following;

Where your road draft tube mounts to the right hand side of the block I have a steel tube that runs forward to the intake manifold to fitting directly below the carb. This has a PCV valve in it. I have an additional line from the oil filler tube that runts to the top of the carb. It attaches on the left side in top section (choke section of the B&B carb). I believe that it comes in just above the choke valve. I can not remember if there is a "PVC" valve in that one or not. I just had my carb out last weekend and did not look at that tube except to disconnect it.
