I've used MIGs a lot. I've never used a gasless one, but I have heard people complain about the price of the consumables.

I have a relatively small MIG, about 100A, and I can buy a 20litre bottle of Argon / CO2 mix for the equivalent of about $40 locally - they can last me over a year but of course it depends on the amount of work I do with it.
