Gas Hog? Compared to what? I don't know what MPG the Tornado 6 is supposed to get, but I bet not much. My M37 with the stock, underpowered flat head six never got more than 10 mpg, and now with the Caddy 500cid I put in it I get . . . 10 mpg.

Too much torque for climbing hills? That is a non-sequitur. Don't know about everyone else, but I take hp/torque numbers on Ebay ads with some healthy doubt. If it hasn't been on a dyno - spare me! Still, from dyno numbers I have seen, a fresh Cad 500 can easily make 500# of torque, and with an automatic transmission, you can roll on that power super smooth - I know because I did it and it works great. I'd rather climb rocks and hills with 300+ Caddy HP any day than coax 3 tons of steel with 92 hp of flat head - been there done both.

Modifications are truly a matter of personal preference - there are no rules here folks. Personally, if M715s were indeed rare, then I may agree that they should be kept stock. But, I see goo-gads of M37s and M715s rotting away unrestored, and both were made in relatively high numbers. The fact is there are thousands of vintage vehicles which would have turned to dust years ago but for some hot-rodder taking care of it just because he wanted to modify it.

Why modify? How about making a good thing better?
