All steel is cast, then rolled into shapes so welding a front axle housing is just fine. Or any steel casting. I had a command car with the same piston system for 26 years, worked good. If you wanna walk through the engineering, the piston has 2 square inchs, 1500psi, 3,000 lbs load on bracket, 60,000 psi weld strength means 1/20 sq in weld needed, I'm sure you have 6 inchs of 1/4 bead, that's 1 1/2 sq in. or 90,000 lbs. Ought to work for a while.....
