The hub & wheel studs center the drum but don't ever turn your drums without installing the screws & sending in the hubs attached to the drum. I even tighten all 5 lug nuts back on the hub with washers behind the nuts to be sure they get turned true. Once they are turned, mark them so if you ever remove the drums you get them back on the right hub...it's VERY important.
The screws are often thrown out because they can be a real pain to remove.
I'm not a fan of stainless fasteners but this is one place they work very well.
