They do flex a lot and filler just isn't the answer.
The original shells were brazed together, and I've seen quite a few leaded joints too. On the front door apertures and the rear aperture I'd suggest melting out any lead with a torch, grinding out any brazing, and welding up solid with a decent quality MIG welder - nothing else will really work.
