Experienced drivers use 4x2 to go in as far as possible (stuck)and switch to 4x4 to get out.

Kids use 4x4 to go in until they get stuck and use 2x2 (feet) to go get help.

Smart drivers never go by themselves, and never go without straps, chains, winches, anchors, and all the needed recovery items.
