Kids are just as capable as adults, just ignorant. He'll learn by doing. 2 coats of primer will get him more practice than most of you guys have, then the color coat. By the time he gets it resotored, he'll be a mechanic. That's how I got my start. Built my own metal lathe at 14- they wouldn't let me make cannons in school shop. Now I shoot clear finish- on my custom furniture, all self taught. Learning the basic "craftsman philosophy" is appropriate in any field he ends up in.
