George, the terminal with condenser is the BATTERY. It is a little larger than field connection. To test charging system, first check wires & connections.Make sure regulator is grounded!Check mounting bolts for rust, paint etc.Using separate wire,attach on body of reg. to generator housing, not terminals.while engine running. (fast idle). If no charge trace wires with a multimeter.Connect separate wire from field on reg to gen housing.(or good ground)If still no charge, connect wire on reg showing BAT-jump to ARM terminal on reg. If it charges at fast idle, it is the regulator that is at fault, if not, it is either the wiring or generator, i.e. brushes-open field etc. (bench test)
