I think you're right but I just find there is so much oil contamination with diesels that I'm not comfortable with it.
I know changing the oil at 3000 works well...I think the Synthetic will work longer than regular intervals but I'm just not willing to gamble with my engine's life.
All indications are that Synthetic works great but for example in a Dodge Viper they void your warranty if you use anything other than Mobil 1 Synthetic, or if you run longer oil change interval than 3000 miles...why would they want you to change it if the oil doesn't break down?
Too much at risk for me.
