The only benefit is no more points to maintain. I can't really see the benefit for me..most of the cars I've owned have been pre electronic ignition & if you have a dwell meter & replace your points & set them accurately you won't have ignition problems...I haven't anyway.
There should be no need for replacing points more often than every couple of years.
More often than not points get ruined by running your truck with them out of adjustment or if you leave your ignition on for a prolonged period of time.
I can't actually remember the last time I went to start a car or truck & it was the points keeping it from running unless it had been idle for several years.
That's my opinion, but I wouldn't be switching to 12 volt either!
