Chrysler has the VIN number, body tag number, and engine number of most trucks built before 1950 or so, but after that the records do not exsist to my understanding.

They charge you per truck for the info though, so I would pay a lot of money getting this info from the source.

Plus it would most likely not include things like winch numbers, etc.

Also, parts books have some of this info, but some of the book info is wrong, and even what is right does not give a comparison to other numbers on a truck.

For example, wouldn't it be nice to know that not only is your winch the right year, but based upon the other numbers on your truck, is also part of the right sequence.

Or to know about what engine number your truck should have, even if the records do not exsist, and the engine has been replaced.

That way if you want to make it close to original again, you know about what numbers to look for in an engine.

I am just trying to figure out small details like that.

I have some info from over 50 trucks, but I think it will take having info from several hundred before I can make clear statements about what engine number was used in what year, or any other detail like that.

Of course I need this info from both CA built trucks, and MI built trucks, as the CA numbers seem to be a bit behind those of the MI built trucks.

Any and all info is appreciated!

Eric
