In North Carolina, you can qualify for a farm license plate if you own at least 10 acres of land that is actively engaged in agriculture. The license plate is ½ the price of normal. You must license the truck for the GVW that you intend to haul. (In increments of 1,000 pounds.)My Dad used to have the 1948 B1PW licensed for 10,000 pounds. (We in fact often had it overloaded!) The insurance is also cheaper for farm trucks. The only restriction is that you can not haul for hire, the load is to be farm products or farm supplies. This regulation is seldom inforced. (They don't stop you and ask what you are hauling or who owns the load.)
