The FD I was on had a M35 Brush truck/ Tanker that grossed out at 32,000 and some change. It Drove and stopped OK, It was awfully slow, max 45-50 mph. and wasn't worth crap off road in a soft field, it went down like a ton of bricks, OK,,, 16 tons of bricks. The tank was centered on the rear axles and it was bit tail heavy and wanted to push {NASCAR type push}. I've had mine grossed out to 27,500 and with the 11.00's you couldn't tell there was anything in the back of the truck. The 9.00 8 ply tires are the weak link when it comes to moving any serious weight. Now let me quailfy a remark about the tanker and it's brakes, where I live in MI the ground is as flat as a pancake {the biggest hill is ones driveway}, I would not want to have 32,000 pounds pushing me down a twisting mountain road in that truck! As for the axles, I think they are rather light weight compared to a commercial truck, I want to say 13,000 each but I don't have my manual at home, so I'm kind saying this off the top of my head.

FYI Mark-A M49C, 1200 gal tanker version of the M35 weights approx 25,000 lb when loaded with water.
