Saw my first Unimog up close and personal today. I stopped for Diesel fuel on I-85 near Greensboro, NC and just as I was pulling up to the pump the Unimog came pulling in also. To say the least it was VERY, VERY COOL! I still remember the first magazine article I read about these trucks 30+ years ago. I was impressed enough to remember it still and now I can't eveny remember what I had for breakfast this morning. I read a couple of years ago that Mercedes was going to build a model for the N. American market. This truck belonged to a dealer and had been at a show in Baltimore. The operator told me they started importing them in January 2003 and have about 85 to 90 trucks in the US now. Pictures don't do this truck justice. I drove a Semi for 5 years when I was a young man seeking adventure. I was fortunate enough to travel the entire US and was most impressed by the great Southwest. Pictures and words just don't do it justice. You have to see it to really know what the term wide open spaces really means. The Unimog is the same way. Pictures and words just don't do it justice. This truck is a Power Wagon (required content) on a very serious case of steroids. Everyone that loves real trucks like the Power Wagon should make an effort to check out a Unimog.
