Cowl lights convert over to turn signals great, even when using the original single filiment bulb, that is if you use the old Signal-Stat #900 kit. I can't be sure about the #900 kits that they make now though.

My older #900 kit included instructions on how to wire into the stock tailights and cowl lights. The cowl lights still functioned as designed. With the cowl lights lit, and when the turn signal switch was activated, the light on the correct side would flash, while the other would remain constantly lit. With the cowl lights off (whether no lights were turned on or with the head lights on), and when the turn signal switch was activated, the light on the correct side would flash, while the other would remain off.

This kit required tying into the headlight switch, the brake light sending switch, both cowl lights, and running an additional wire to the rear of the truck to make the factory tailights independant of each other.
