The 1937 Ford I learned to drive in had a light switch on the steering wheel (not colum) that was high or low. My "modern" cars starting with a 1949 Chrysler New Yorker had a floor mounted dimmer switch that was high or low. I don't remember the last car I had that had a floor mounted dimmer switch, but all my "late model" cars and trucks with the stalk mounted dimmer switch were high or low. Some of them would have both high and low elements lighted if you held the stalk (dimmer switch) against the detent without moving it past the detent and activating the switch.
