One more note: Before installing the new gasket, you should clean out the threaded holes in the block with a tap, to get out rust or sealer that might be in there. And also clean off the threaded portions of the bolts with a wire wheel or a threaded die and some lacquer thinner or brake parts cleaner.

And as powerwagonjohn mentioned, you need to clean the block and head really, really well, so that the gasket sealer will stick to those surfaces as well as possible. To clean the surfaces, you should use lacquer thinner or brake parts cleaner, because neither one of these leaves any residue on the parts after it has evaporated. Carb cleaner, gasoline, and many other solvents do leave a residue, which will prevent the sealant from sticking to the surfaces so well.
