Linux is not virus safe. Nothing is. Linux problems are just not news like people attacking Windows. I attended a talk recently that discussed both Linux and Windows security. The worst problem with Linux users are that they are in denial. Linux like Windows has it's fair share of problems but Linux issues are not talked about in the news nor are their system patches highly advertized or told about in the press. Linux users have a false sense of security as they are not hearing all that is going on. One question to ask a Linux user is "Who currently owns your CPU?" Apparently that has been an issue.
Now to be fair, I work at the Windows factory but use an Apple at home. All systems have their weaknesses and unfortunately there are people who believe that have the right to cause problems and destroy things (hackers).
