A few have mentioned cribbing with railroad ties or 6X6's. I saw an awesome example of cribbing a few years ago when they moved the Cape Hatteras NC)lighthouse, which is masonry and very tall. Yeah, this a true story! Ask Marine Frank in NC if you don't believe it.
They jacked it up with muliple hugh jacks and then started cribbing under it, then built a path and track and used horizontal jacks to push it along. I can't remember the weight but it was in the thousands of tons.
