I always tought in the fire service to crib as you jack when doing lifts with air bags or jaws. The same holds true when we jack up a truck. Ok, if you jacking with a good floor jack high enough to put a jack stand under, probably no need to crib as your floor jack is solid under the axle. But anything else crib as you jack.
