apb, I have a further question. Currently working on a 12 volt conversion myself. 1966 chev motor into a 51 chev. The alternator does require a regulator, I believe I have hooked everything up correctly but the points on the regulator remain open when the motor is running (does not charge). I can manually close the points which initiates charging (as indicated on the ammeter). Shut off the motor and the points open. What do you believe the problem may be? There is a ground terminal on tha alternator that is not connected to anything, does this need to be grounded?? I do not believe it was on the 66 chev. Any help would be much appreciated.
