Yes, that is what I meant. The charging lead from the alternator (usually a #10) goes first to the + side of the ammeter. The - side of the ammeter goes to the + side of the battery, and also feeds all the other accessories, including the ignition, lights, etc.

If the ammeter indicates in reverse, just swap the leads on the ammeter. Sometimes ammeters are labeled GEN and BATT or similar, instead of + and -.
