I bought a $13,000 truck a couple years ago, and right away it needed $2,000 worth of stuff (tires, modifications to suit my needs, etc). The other trucks I had been looking at were basicly in the same shape (a couple would not have needed tires), but they were priced at $18,000-$20,000.

It was the cheapest truck I could find that did the job I wanted to do, and was in good original condition.

Buy the best truck you can, as a basket case will cost you more in the long run, but a $5,000 truck might be just fine for your needs.

Unexpected repairs, other bills, insurance, all that adds up, and having money in the bank is a nice feeling!

Think on it this way, there is nothing worse then having a nice truck just sit in your driveway because you can't afford to fix it after something unexpected breaks.

Good luck!

Eric
