Dave, I am going through this myself with my truck. If you have the dual guage (Amp/Fuel) on the right side of the speedo then that is the original guage which is 6V. First question: I am assuming that your Power Wagon is 1950 something or before, is your truck still a 6V system or has it been converted to 12v? I will get back to this later. The fuel guage should have 3 posts-1 marked for ignition (IGN) and 2 for the wires that go to the sending unit. The ignition lead hooks to the ignition contact that becomes hot when the key is turned on. Then theres one that goes to the sending unit and one that comes back from the sending unit back to the guage. I believe that the sending unit is non grounding and requires the 2 wires (it is an in-line resistor). Again, this is only if it is 6v. If a truck has been converted to 12V then it uses a 12v guage with a 12v sending unit. There will still be a hot lead that goes from the ignition switch to the (IGN) post on the guage. Then the 12v guage will have 1 more post that has a wire running to the sending unit. There is only one post since the 12v sending unit is self grounding as is the 12v guage. If you want to run the original 6v fuel guage and the truck has been converted to 12v, you will have to use the 2 post 6v sending unit on the tank just as the truck was made, however you will need a 12v to 6v resistor that is sold by Vintage PW (about $10-15 bucks)that is installed on the hot wire running between the ignition and the fuel gauge. There are other resistors out there but the VPW resistor has the correct impedance rating for this system. I understand that this system is very sensitive to the correct impedance. They also sell 6v sending units for around $100. I hope this helps. If anyone else out there has anything to add or correct on my explaination, feel free to add your 2 cents. Like I said I am in the process of doing the same thing. All I need now is a sending unit. Let me know if you need any more help. Bill J.
