I'm thinking of using coal tar epoxy on my frame. We use it on barges & steel boat hulls underwater- it is rated for total submersion. It is also used in treatment plants for steel in contact with sewage, so it's pretty tough. It's very cheap compared to the products mentioned previously. It looks like roofing tar about paint consistency but when you put that epoxy hardener in, it sets up hard as hell & even MEK or lacquer thinner on a rag won't hurt it. It's not like tar then! It can be applied directly on sandblasted steel, 2 coats required for barge bottoms. Several paint companies make it- I used Rust Oleum brand on my barge last time. No designer colors available.
