I am curious to know if anyone has utilized any of the companies found in Hemmings Motor News that do steering gear rebuilding. Particularly the kinds of gears found in W-series trucks such as the W300. The word "rebuilt" has a huge range of meaning in today's profit motivated society. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the integrity of some of these rebuilds?

Broadening the discussions beyond automotive, and to rebuilding assemblies of various sorts, I have seen too many instances where a business uses the language, "....we go all through it...," and their interpretation is that they disassemble, clean, paint, and reassemble with new lubricant and gaskets, along with some used parts implied to be new. The main benefit ends up being psychological on the part of the customer, because of his faith and expectations.

Has anyone utilized any power steering or manual steering gears from big truck applications? Something that could be found commonly, such as Ford, Navistar, etc. Something that would have long term parts availability.
