VW converted to 12v in 61
Mustang II and Pintos were 12 volt throughout
The easiest method to retain the 6volt gauges is
to run a 12 to 6 volt power converter.
If you really want 12 volts + the look of the
old gauges you can either upgrade the gauges and
sending units to 12 volt (check in hemmings
for rebuilders or you can keep the 6 volt stuff
and run a converter to power just the 6 volt
circuits (much cheaper).
The old 6 volt switches and wiring harness are
more than adaquate to carry the 12 volt load.
The heater fan, wiper motor (if electric),
starter, generator/alternator, voltage regulator,
and battery are what is the biggest problem -
mounting, wiring,etc
If you can't find a 12 volt start that fits you
can use the 6 volt starter, it will spin twice as
fast and draw twice (or more) of current than it
was designed to do. Not a problem if the engine
starts quick.

You MAY be able to find the gauges you need in 12
volt from a newer year and have them repainted to
match the old gauges. You should be able to upgrade
the starter to a 12 volt one.

I would complete the conversion to 12 volt unless
you are restoring the truck.
6 volt stuff is ok, it is just harder to find.

Good Luck
Oscar
