I'm with Gordon on this one. Also kown by boiler makers as "pinning". I used it with great results. I used small threaded studs that have a shoulder. Drill, tap and locktite in one at a time. The shoulder should bed into the casting. Grind off flush. Repeat process on next one following the crack and overlapping the prior. This way there is no chance of backing out.
Welding can work with proper metal conditioning. Heat, curing, cooldown, etc. But inexperence here can cause more damage.
