Thanks for the advice. As far as the fuel problem goes, I have tried 2 different carbs and had the same problem with both, the 2nd carb has a fresh rebuild on it. I hear what your saying about the alt. conversion. This truck is original with a 12 volt system and already has the ballast resistor and 12 volt lights, coil, etc. installed. The generator is 12 volt. A 2 wire alternator (internal regulator) is $41.55 from NAPPA and will push 60 amps vs. 25 or so with the generator. The pulley issue is something I had not thought of though. You are the first person who has said anything negative about the conversion, and it sounds like you have done your homework on it so I am going to re-think this. I have a 6 volt generator that works and have been told that this will work fine on a 12 volt system, has anyone else tried this? I will pull the generator apart today and see what it looks like inside. NAPPA did a bench test on the generator and said it's not working but it does motor so it's rebuildable. Another possibility is that my V/R is bad. Is there any way to check this? Thanks for the help.
