I've beem looking for about 6 months for a 1946-68 Power Wogon. Weighing my options on 40's vs later 60's models. I'm finding out that it is better to worry about sheet metal and condition rather than year and options. Any advice?
I got a lead on my first PW last week at a wedding. There was a guy at the wedding driving a 65 Plymouth Fury (Indy 500 Pace Car) w/ a 383cid. Well, of course I had to ask him if he knew what a OLD Power wagon was, Praying he would say yes, well he did and told me where one was sitting about 30 minutes away. That next day I put the family in the mini-van and off we are to see my first real life PW. At this point I am really hoping that this guy knew what the old flat fender PW was. The whole way there I am telling the Mrs. that this truck could be the wrong body style and trying to explain all of that to her, Still haven't completely figured all that out myself yet. Dodge makes 2 different style PW from approx. 61-68'.
anyhow, we arrive in the small town in the Mid west and low and behold it's a 54' PW. Boy am I excited. The truck has a primered cab,no front fenders,no bed,no front bumper or winch. It has a engine and was last run about 5 yrs ago. I ask for the man of the house and find out that an older gentleman owns the truck and is in a rest home due to some serious health issues. I give my name and # to his wife in hopes that she will call me but this situation makes it impossible to call again to inquire about the truck. I didn't ask any specifics about the truck to her. There could be all the parts to put it back together in the garage. Looks like he was working on restoring it. Well for any matter does anyone know what this truck would be worth as it sits without the fenders, winch, bed etc. It does have thw wheels but not military tires (old bald tires). What would it be worth if all the extras I need are stuck in the garage?
I really need to be ready if she would ever call. She mentioned wanting to get rid of the old eye-sore. By the way, This was my first ever PW siting in person. They are as great as all of the pictures I have seen. Any help on the matter would be appriciated. Maybe someone else has been through this type of a purchase. Well, thanks Eric
