I was going to try Marks' successful idea of uncrimping the transmission end of the cable and shorten the housing. But as I looked at the situation and measured how much longer the cable needed to be to connect the speedo and sink into the gear at the transmission; it came to me that there was plenty of length in the "bell" that screws down onto the back of the speedometer. I needed about 3/16 more length in the cable to take out the slop so I cut 3/16 off the bell with a diegrinder and reflared the bell to size and remounted it. This has worked great for several drives and it kept me from having to figure out how to uncrimp and re-crimp the fittings. If you have a new cable and housing from VPW and the speedometer jumps you too may have a cable that is just a bit too short for its housing and this will fix you up.
