I have the same Tach and talked to an outfit that will basically gut the transmitter unit and replace it with an easy modernized replacement. I will look the same from the outside. He said before sending the unit in, to take a "D" battery and use it accross the contacts of the gauge. If the gauge moves, that is a good sign that you only have to repair the sending unit. I can look for this guy and send the info to you offline if needed.
