I'm not doubting the ability of a diesel truck, I own one! I'm simply saying for the average person a dodge 2500 with a V8 in it will tow a power wagon a few times/year & it will cost you less to own if you sell it within 5 years or so from new.
Most people tow less than 1000 miles/year & most people do not keep a truck for more than 5 years.
For that person a Cummins Diesel is asinine.
I'm sure a freightliner will pull even better than a Cummins will but for most people it's over-kill.
Call the Dealership & see what they charge for an oil change.
It will be in the $100 ballpark to do an oil & filter change on a Cummins using either Mopar or Cummins filters.
Ever check what an injector pump costs?
$2000. I could rebuild a small V8 twice for that price. Turbo? $1000.
As I said, if you tow with your truck weekly it will likely pay to buy a diesel but if you're using your truck mostly as a car, I'm afraid I disagree.
