First...is the 'shear BOLT' intact?? Did you put the winch under a load in forward gears? There is a considerable amount of backlash (slop) between the steel worm gear (on the PTO shaft) and the Brass main gear, so when you stop forward motion of the winch, and reverse it, the pto drive shaft may take a partial revolution before engaging the brass gear in feverse. I suggest placing a load on the winch in a forward or wind in direction and see if the drum skips along.. if not it is probably fine. Your PTO is a single speed in/out only so there is no reversing gear on the PTO, it drives directly off the input shaft of the transfer case, so if in fact reverse is skipping, the truck would do the same when backing up! The only other thing might be a very sloppy U joint, or the shear BOLT, or the splines on the slip yoke on the PTO or even a loose setscrew on the yoke that fits on the PTO shaft. Have fun! I have new shaft selas in stock for your winch as well as other parts... John
