Marty,

I think you're right on the money if you'll pardon the pun. Whatever cost savings that might have been evident years ago are long gone. The cost of proper maintenance is unreal and the first time you have to replace an injector pump or even just one of the new direct injectors you begin to doubt the wisdom of your purchase. And now in order to change oil you have to buy two cases and you better have a platinum credit card to buy oil/air/fuel filters. Anymore it is purely just a personal preference. Yeah they pull like a team of draft horses and last forever, but honestly how many owners hang onto the truck until the engine wears out? Even the gas engines will last 200,000 or more with good care. Most owners, and I know there are exceptions will sell or trade them in long before the engine fails. I've ran diesel pickups for years and will probably continue to do so, but purely for torque and power and what the hell because I can! You get used to the noise, but what is interesting is to leave the radio on when you turn the engine off and the next day when you climb back in the first thing you're scrambling to do is turn the doggone thing down. They're noisy, smelly, cost prohibitive, hard starting in cold weather, and a general pain in the rear. Having said that I'm ready to buy another one!

..Brett..
