First I would base it on the WDX-WM300 style and original PW.
I would incorperate as much and many stainless body parts as possible such as the beautiful wiper hardware from Kevin of Ohio,w/electric wiper motors.
Headlight rings, radiator cap (w/embossed rams head),hood hinge ends, windshield frame, original style door-handles(recesssed into door body to prevent snagging brush),and any other chromed pieces could be either chromed brass or polished stainless. Most everything exterior would look as the original does except for the recessed original door handles.Side mirrors would be stainless.
The interior would look original except for the chromed or stamped polished stainless speedo and gauge plates, stainless handles and Bighorn sheep leather seats, upholstered in bench/bucket fashion, modified for front & back movement w/a electric motor & headliner done in Bighorn sheepskin. The steering wheel would have the look and texture of ramshorn and the horn button would have a raised ramshead. The cab would be mounted on special non-twist mounts allowing the frame to flex and twist w/o causing stress on the cab.Of course vintage air heating and cooling combo unit would be added.
The drivetrain would basically remain the same visually except for the extensive internal machine work and modifications.
I would hold true to form with a in-line 6 engine for sake of working room and pto/winch operation. Either the in-line 6 australian Hemi or a turbo-diesel would be used with a special original bellhousing modified and cast with a set of universal bolt &dowel holes for almost any chrysler application. A hydralic throwout bearing would be used w/the pedal being mounted in the original spot pushing the mastercylinder.
The tranny would be a modified NP420w/OD. The brakes would be 4-wheel disc w/ the 1968 dual MS setup w/ booster. A centered rearend w/a higher gear ratio ring&pinion set.
So basically the WDX-WM300 PW would visually look the same but would be more weather resistant, and modernized drivetrain wise with certain bugs worked out. So. wadda you think about that for a original looking but improved PW?
