Gibberish on my screen

Does anyone know why I have the following problem?

I often use my home computer to get on this forum, but lately, after clicking on only one or two postings, when I return to the main forum screen, the entire screen turns to gibberish. In other words I see nothing but a screen full of symbols. I get off the site and get back on it again and again, but unless I wait for an hour or two before trying again, my screen remains unreadable. And even then, it only takes me reading a couple of messages and then the gibberish is back.

Does anyone know of a fix for this maddening problem?

I'll probably have to read your responses from my computer at work, since my home PC isn't working right.
