Yes, it is highly detergent, I have even used it for engine oil when re-habing an engine that has sat for years, run 100% ATF for about 60 seconds and drain, (and change the filter if you have one) it will be pretty gross, then 50/50 oil and ATF for 3-4 minutes, and drain and change the filter again. This is after the ATF (diesel) soak, that Marty suggested above. ATF is very fine and highly detergent, it gets into every nook and cranny and cleans an engine spotless, removes water, grit and corrosive acids.
