Just stick a rubber plug in the dipstick tube.
There's no science here, just fill it as full as you can & get it & put some plastic under it in case it spills out.
Diesel is a great penetrating oil & it's cheap. Is there better penetrating oil? Certainly but not at $1.50/gallon!
If you want to see how well it works take a bucket full of rusty old winch bolts & put them in a jar with diesel for a week or two.
You'll be surprised when you can turn the nuts on with your fingers when you come back.
As far as contamination, believe me, there will be lots of contamination in that engine when you turn it over & all the rust & crap is mixed with your oil.
Once you drain the diesel you're going to want to fill it with oil & flush it once or twice...no matter which route you go your going to have to do that much.
You might even want to pull the pan & have a look.
I've even seen dead mice in them!
It's all a lot less work than a rebuild & it may very well be perfectly fine inside.
I've free'd lots of engines with diesel that were so stuck you couldn't turn them with a wrench yet once they were freed up they ran great.
What have you got to lose..right?
