Will,
Everyone will have a different recommendation & who really knows what brand was used from Dodge. Fact is, it wasn't very good or most of the parts on a 50 year old truck would still have paint on them like most body parts do.
Most paint manufacturers mix a chassis black that is essentially semi-gloss black.
I use a black 2 part epoxy primer & black semi-gloss epoxy top coat.
POR products are good if you're looking to save time & not sandblast but if you want the best coating, Powder Coating or Epoxy.
I've also seen lots of original NOS Mopar chassis parts that are painted gloss.
The fact is, they hosed on whatever they could buy cheap & often different parts were different sheen's.
It wasn't many years ago when you'd buy a new car & there was surface rust starting on lots of different parts of the chassis.
They seem to take much better care these days.
