I watched Leno last night, former leftist, Dennis Miller was on. Miller was talking about his conversion to reality after 9-11. He also talked about America's biggest mistake, the convuluted mixing of anti-war sentiment with hatered of our troops during the Vietnam War. He called it a disgrace and America's worst hour. Regardless of your feelings about the war, we didn't run away to Canada, we served. The ones here that are left to talk about it, survived. We didn't deserve, to be spat upon, and reviled, merely for following orders and also surviving our tours. I was lucky, my duty assignments keep me from seeing the most serious action. People who had been under my command died while I had safer duty. For years I felt guilty about that, in fact not until American changed and welcomed home the Gulf War I Veterans did I get over it. The cheers and parades that were given for those kids may as well been for the Veterans of the Vietnam Era, because, after 30+ years, I finally felt vindicated and accepted. I know that many who had conditions worse than I, and those who were wounded and left with wounds and injuries that will never heal, felt the senselessness even more. We never had our parade, a welcome, or even a "job well done". The people need to understand one thing, the American Soilders didn't lose that war, they won nearly every battle that they were in. Even Tet, while fierce, resulted in an incredible slaughter of the enemy. The politicians and mutton headed generals lost that war, not the soilders. America owes them an apology, it's time.
