First, the tees in your brake system are probably bras, and that's mostly copper..

Modern seamless copper tube will take a fair pressure whish is PROBABLY enough for normal brake use (no, I wouldn't either)

.... but, in the UK practically everyone who rebuilds these systems uses Cunifer (Copper Nickel Iron CU NI FE alloy)which can look pretty much like a dirty copper surface. Cunifer is made specially for this application, wont rust, deforms easily to match brass tees and tube fittings (which stainless brake lines wont) and I use it for pretty much everything. In fact if I redo the brakes on the Shelby those expensive stainless lines are going in the bin and Cunifer is going on....

Any chance that's what you found, and not just plain copper?
