Seeing the good picture posted I can see how they worked the return line from the filter to not allow filtering of the oil till there was enought presure in the systen to be releaved by the bypass valve and then it opened to allow the oil to flow thru the filter. Yes the oil will not drain thru the line when the engine is off. I like the better picture it shows more how the valve works both ports. Mark H.
