I look in my Mopar Parts List Book for Power Wagons 1947 to 56 and it shows the line coming from the oil canister bottom to the port above the bypass valve. I look in my Power Wagon Owners Manual it shows it just the oppisite?? I got the picture of the valve out of the Mopar Parts Book in the above post. The owners manual also show the flow of oil to the inside of the filter to the ouside. It also said if the filter becomes to dirty it will just stop the flow of oil thru the fliter and not damage the bearings since it dose not go back to them after the filter. I could not find anything on the bypass valve stopping the oil flow from the filter but by looking at the valve it may work that way when the valve comes back twords the bolt holding it in and shut off that port above the spring because in the picture you can see 2 ports one for the bypass valve and one below the return line from the filter. I ran into problems like this before on some of these manuals being differnt in there pictures when I did mine. It can get confusing. You made me dig into them tonight. Mark H.
