As you can see in this picture the oil line going into the top of the ByPass Valve area flows right by the spring into the oil pan. You can see where the valve part that releaves the excess oil presure is past this opening and further into the block. I hope this helps. The picture in the book also showed the line coming out of the bottom of the filter going to this port in the block. Mark H.
