I cleaned up my 58 W100 tranny cover to find holes and pits all around the edge of it. After a reall good cleaning I mixed and spread JB Weld and when hardened I sanded smooth. It worked even with a backing on the holes. Also used it under the outer windshield (on the cowl) of my M-37.
