You did not say where you intended to install the "A" Frame hoist. The front mount setup that was on my '47 WDX had the "A" frame pivots on the frame rails as shown in the photo.

The winch cable was led up through a snatch block positioned near the top of the grill and then out to the pulley at the apex of the "A" frame. You unspooled enough cable to pass through the apex pulley and then secured the hook back onto the "A" frame itself. When you spooled the winch in, the distance between the pivot points and the snatch block was enough that the "A" frame could be lifted with the winch. Once the "A" frame was at its working height, the support cables were connected to the corners of the "Headache Rack" and the winch was unspooled so you could release the hook from the "A" frame and use it to hoist. See my next post for a picture of the whole setup. The snatch block is not shown but goes where the chain is hanging.

This particular "A" frame was designed to lift "high" not "heavy" to raise rafters and such. That meant the "A" frame was not particularly heavy. To lift a heavier "A" frame, you would have to increase the distance between the "A" frame pivots and the snatch block you used to to lift it.

This arrangement can be used on a rear mounted "A" frame with a rear mounted winch.
