In vehicles as heavy as M37s (and I'd assume Power Wagons too), I found that the rear locker actually improved snow/ice performance. It is completely transparent when turning corners, and having both tires turning when pulling out of a polished intersection was a great benefit. That was my experience during the four years I drove my '63 M37 as a year-round driver up here in Fairbanks, AK.
I'm currently building a '52 M37 and it was a given that a lockright would be installed in the rear. Still debating one for the front, however since my spare 3rd member has a lockright installed and I added power steering to the truck already, I'll probably try it.
