Paul, I have an 8000 lb electric winch I sometimes use in my construction business. It is moi=unted onto a heavy plate with a 2" square tube to slide into a receiver. I ran welder cable back to the rear and use welder quick disconnects. The winch is not out in the weather, and I only lug it around when I need it. It would be no problem to mount a front receiver if you wanted the winch in the front. It has worked well for me.
